The following are the responses to our pre Nov. 5, 2002 national poll of the candidates running for Governor to the question: "Should smoked marijuana be a medical option now?"
[Note: We have incorporated into our responses the recent results of effectively the same question from Wisconsin NORML and the Drug Policy Alliance polls, and some results from third parties representing the candidates' views on the question.]
"Not opposed to medical marijuana. Mr. Heath believes that private decisions about medical marijuana treatments made by doctors and patients should not be regulated by the government."
*Announced 1/16/03 that he would likely support medical marijuana legislation. Said "I am predisposed to support it [medical marijuana]. It's personal. My wife and I saw a very strong person taken down inch by inch [by cancer]."
Responded yes to Wisconsin NORML survey asking if candidate supports "legislation allowing patients access to marijuana for medical purposes when recommended by their physician.
Incumbent - "Can not respond due to many requests."
