Jeff Sessions Biography

Title:
84th Attorney General of the United States
Position:
Con to the question "Should Marijuana Be a Medical Option?"
Reasoning:

“Drug traffickers already cultivate and distribute marijuana inside the United States under the guise of state medical marijuana laws. In particular, Cuban, Asian, Caucasian, and Eurasian criminal organizations have established marijuana operations in state-approved markets…

Smoking marijuana, in addition, has significant negative health effects.”

Letter titled “Re: Department of Justice Appropriations ” sent to Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI), Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), May 1, 2017

[Editor’s Note: In the above statement, Sessions asked Congress to remove prohibitions that stop the Justice Department from spending funds to enforce the federal ban on marijuana in states that have legalized it for medical use. In addition to the above statement, Attorney General Sessions made the following statement as quoted by Rachel Weiner in a Mar. 15, 2017 article titled “Jeff Sessions: ‘Medical Marijuana Has Been Hyped, Maybe Too Much,'” available at washingtonpost.com:

“I think medical marijuana has been hyped, maybe too much…dosages can be constructed in a way that might be beneficial, I acknowledge that, but if you smoke marijuana, for example, where you have no idea how much THC you’re getting, it’s probably not a good way to administer a medicinal amount. So forgive me if I’m a bit dubious about that.”]
