Dec. 4, 2020 – US House Passes Marijuana Decriminalization Bill

The House passed a marijuana decriminalization bill (228-164) that would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act, as well as add a 5% tax on marijuana to help people most affected by marijuana criminalization and to fund community and small business grants.

Though the bill is not likely to pass the current Republican-controlled Senate, it is the first time either chamber has passed such an act. The legislation was led by Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY) with Senator and Vice-President elect Kamala Harris (D-CA).
