Nov. 3, 2020 – Mississippi and South Dakota Legalize Medical Marijuana

Voters in Mississippi and South Dakota voted to legalize medical marijuana in the Nov. 2020 election. South Dakota also legalized recreational marijuana, making it the first state to legalize both in the same election.

Three other states also legalized recreational marijuana (Arizona, Montana, and New Jersey). Every marijuana initiative on the ballot on Nov. 3, 2020 passed.

Steve Hawkins, JD, Executive Director of the Marijuana Policy Project, stated, “With the passage of these initiatives, one-third of the population now lives in jurisdictions that have legalized cannabis for adult use, and 70% of all states have embraced cannabis for medical use.”
